Rigoberto Sandoval Corea:
The new forestry administration could become another example of corruption

Rigoberto Sandoval Corea, advisor to the Honduran Agro-forestry Alliance (HAA), affirms that "there is enormous risk" in the creation of the Honduran Financial Forestry Agency (HFFA) to administer funds designated for the management of forests and wildlife.

Sandoval Corea, who served as the director of the Honduran Corporation of Forestry Development (COHDEFOR), explains that this type of institution is always politicized and that, given the general corruption in the country, this entity could become a forestry CONADI.

The National Corporation of Investments (CONADI) was a government institution that managed millions of lempiras to foster industrial development in the country. It was shut down because of corruption, fraud and the poor administration of funds.

The proposed legislation that contains the creation of the Honduran Financial Forestry Agency should be revised with care in this and other aspects, according to Sandoval Corea. "A law with concern and vision for the country should be approved."
